The fear of being happy is called Cherophobia. It is a state where an individual evades experiences that entreat certain sentiments and comfort. If being happy terrors you, you may restrict yourself with your authentic potential and motive. The main reason to avoid happiness is the belief that if you chose to remain happy, a negative, offensive and the disappointing, or distressing event will soon happen that may ruin your happiness. We always focus on lessening sadness and make as much happiness as possible. People are afraid to feel happy due to some past traumatic incidents which may be physical or emotional. Your happiness may get killed. You must have felt humiliated or punished. People who fear happiness do not remain sad all the time, in fact, they are fearful of the circumstances and ventures that could produce peace and pleasure. People of such mindset avoid social get-togethers like the party, events and refuse to take part in entertainment pursuits. They think feeling happy may bring bad luck. It is a state of complete despair, that makes us feel troubled and you will have a perception that your pleasure may not long last, feeling happy makes us a poor person, showing delight is critical for you and your friends, trying to be happy is a misuse of time and work.

Social Phobia

An introvert is more likely to suffer from such fear. He remains alone all the time and performs his activities solely. These people are reserved. They find themselves uncomfortable in social events and crowds and are scared to surround by many people. They feel lighter and more confident when they are eluding satisfaction. Cherophobia affects their quality of life. Avoiding happiness is related to mental disorders. They suppress both positive and negative thoughts and emotions. If you are trying too hard to be happy, sometimes the effects can be the opposite.

We have a desire to succeed and become happy but there is something that is stopping us. You are being taken back by over-excitement. You avoid compelling opportunities and you have self-doubt about how you will perform. When you want to achieve something will full enthusiasm and passion but you fail, there is a fear that if you try again, you might fail again. The fear of being happy arises when we suppose all the ways in which anything could go fallacious. We analyze all the pros and cons of the situation before it happens. We have a feeling of anxiety or panic before we start anything. This drags you back in cherishing your goals and dreams. Be truthful and honest with yourself. 

Causes of the fear of happiness.

You should overcome the feeling that you deserve to be unhappy. Enormous tasks involve taking risks and require bravery to accomplish. Being happy requires flexibility to follow your own path, despite the fear of uncertainty. Happiness is a choice. It is a state of mind. It is an outcome of how you perceive things, what efforts you make to achieve them, and appreciates what you have. Rather than just looking for happiness, try harder to achieve it. The situation does not always remain the same. We are so caught up with the busy schedule that we feel we have very little time to be joyous. There is a difference between being thrilled and just feeling happy. Sometimes we just pretend to be happy in front of people.
                       
Every person has their own reason for happiness. Some people find it in the smallest of things, some people wait for happening any big event to be joyful. Accept the things as they come. Delight comes from your own actions. Happiness comes from within. Don't look for external solutions. Materialistic things can't bring you happiness. Sharing your happiness with others makes it double. Do nothing just for the sake of doing it, unless you have a sense of happiness.
                       
Not every person suffering from this fear needs treatment. But most of them require if this is affecting their life in a negative way.

Overcoming the fear of happiness.

1. Identify your practices which force you to take back steps and don't allow to be happy and which don't allow you to be happy.
2. Examine your thoughts and feelings.
3. Believe that you deserve happiness no matter how difficult things are and whatever the situation may be.

Happiness has some measurable outcomes. It only gives a sense of positiveness.

1. Happy people are more creative.
2. They have a strong immune system.
3. They perform better at their workplace.
4. Are successful in their personal and professional relationships.
5. Never work about the outcome of the situation.
6. They are happy in any situation.
