9 Ways to Eliminate Gender Bias in Society

We have read many articles about gender inequality and gender bias. But today I want to strengthen my views on gender equality. Let's see the situation from the perspective of society. Gender bias is an inclination of one gender over the other.  One gender is more prioritized. We can see everywhere these prejudices in gender. It starts at home and continues in the workplace. We have certain laws to impart equality and justice between the sexes. It is believed that man alone can take over the household responsibilities and women are subjected to household chores.
No wonder, why we have such a mentality. Because we are born and raised on such conservative grounds. It is also said that crime against women is increasing because they are stepping out of the home. Instead of working outside, they should stay at home, raise children and do the household chores.

I believe we have moved in such a long way, leaving behind gender inequality. We give women equal opportunities in every field. This is not about the lack of opportunities they are getting. In fact, it is the narrow-mindedness of people, which does not allow girls to grow. Girls who come from weak financial classes, tribal areas, which are far away from developing and which are lacking in minimal growth and unable to get even the necessities like food, clothes, shelter and not to mention technology, they might have never heard of, are lacking in growth and evolution. Not every girl is given equal opportunities. Today we can see girls touching the sky and rising and leaving a mark in every area, from sports to politics, from the Olympics to being foreign ministers. They are encouraged to grow, but they are driven back by the lack of basic amenities.

People belonging to an orthodox society create a big hurdle in this development area. According to them, women are only born to continue their generation. They have no right to education and to lead an individual life. They have no right to raise their voice against injustice. They cannot intervene in family decisions, even they cannot interrupt the decisions which are taken for them. Women are harassed right from birth. Their family members are the first ones to treat them unfairly.

Eliminate Gender Bias in Society

We can adopt certain strategies to remove this inequity between the genders.

1. Educate your kids

Kids are the foundation of the next generation. The foundation has to be strong. It is very important to teach them that all genders are equally born and should be equally treated, whether it be men, women or transgender. Ask them to respect everyone. Let them know how our perception of women has changed over the years. Specially obstruct boys when they are making meaningless remarks about girls. Make them understand standing up for girls. It is also their concern to remove this imbalance in society.

2. Create an unbiased environment at home

Charity begins at home. Treat both kids equally. Divide the work equally. Don't let them grow with the mindset that a particular task is meant for a particular gender. These small things create a gender gap. We know that it's about mentality. Set their mentality in the right direction, right from the beginning.

3. Equality in schools

It is a gender-based perception that women should not be granted education equal to men and they do not hold equal dignity. In schools, students are seated according to gender. Why some subjects like home science are made for girls and physical education is for boys. Socialization should be done equally, not on a gender basis. They should be allowed to equally participate in all the events and functions.

4. Workplace discrimination

Women are getting equal opportunities, even at the workplace, in fact, they are growing faster. If equal opportunities are given, responsibilities should also be distributed equally. If boys can stay for work until late at night, so can girls. The only concern is their security. They should be made comfortable and feel secure at the workplace. A healthy environment is required to be made to allow them to feel relaxed.

5. Sexual harassment

Sexual harassment is not limited only to girls these days, but the boys are also the victim. Companies have made sexual harassment cells to save people from this action. Some professions are so male dominant that sexual harassment is not even considered a critical issue there. If not taken seriously the victim even can drag you to the legal proceedings to seek justice.

6. Outmoded prospects

Society should change its views. Don't hold the old decade's views that women should be covered up their bodies to avoid crime. It's women themselves who are responsible for the misconduct against them.

7. Illiteracy

Illiterate people often create more unfairness in society. Because they are never taught about this thing. So the only situation is education to remove such disparity.

8. Domestic violence

From ancient times, we are taught that men have a right to humiliate and beat their women. They find their honor in doing so. Women who experience mental and physical violence from their partners are likely to suffer from depression and pain. This is the biggest example of gender inequality. Several laws have been made to protect women from such acts of violence. But apart from this, people also have to change their perception of women.

9. Child marriage

Though child marriages have been completely erased from society still, some backward and tribal areas are there where this practice is still prevalent. Early marriages result in early pregnancy which results in the birth of an unnourished child, premature baby, or dead baby. This limits opportunities for women, they become isolated. So lack of guidance and knowledge is the reason. An organization and communities should be made to avoid this rational disparity.
